You can report non-urgent crimes or events 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through our Police Assistance Line and Online Reporting service.
Emergency reporting
If you are in danger, need to report a crime in progress, or for immediate police attendance, always call Triple Zero (000).
Non-urgent reporting and assistance
Report a non-urgent crime or event at any time using either our Police Assistance Line or online reporting options.
Report using the Police Assistance Line
You can call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 to report some non-urgent crime and events anytime, anywhere.
Examples of non-urgent crimes and events include:
- burglary including at a commercial property or a home with no occupant present
- general theft (including theft of a motor vehicle)
- property damage
- lost property
- general enquiries.
Save 131 444 to your phone contacts to report non-urgent crimes in the future.
All calls to the Police Assistance Line are recorded and retained by Victoria Police. This is both for training and, if required, policing purposes.
When not to use the Police Assistance Line
The Police Assistance Line can't assist you with urgent matters or emergencies, including:
- family violence
- assault
- shop theft or petrol drive-offs
- a crime that is happening at the time of reporting.

You can make an anonymous report to Crime or call 1800 333 000.
They can help if you have information that could help solve a past crime and you do not need police assistance.
Local police station enquiries
Call or visit your local police station to report a crime or seek help with:
- status updates (i.e. following up an incident you've reported)
- reporting past crimes, offences or abuse
- reporting located or found property
- contacting a Community Liaison Officer
- family violence related matters
- other general queries.

You can also make a non-urgent report in your language through an interpreter.
Call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) on 131 450 and ask for the Victoria Police Assistance Line.

National Relay Service and Triple Zero (000) emergency calls
Once you have registered for the National Relay (NRS), use Triple Zero (000) to make an emergency call:
- TTY (teletypewriter) users dial 106. (This is a dedicated text-based emergency phone relay service for TTY users with direct access to emergency lines.)
- Speak and Listen (speech-to-speech relay) users can call 1300 555 727 and ask for 000.
- SMS relay users should call 0423 677 767.
- Internet relay users can connect to the National Relay Service (see the National Relay website for details) and then ask for 000.
National Relay Service and the Police Assistance Line
Once you have registered for the National Relay (NRS), report a non-urgent crime via the Police Assistance Line:
- TTY (teletypewriter) users can call 133 677 and ask for 131 444.
- Speak and Listen (speech-to-speech relay) users can call 1300 555 727 and ask for 131 444.
- SMS relay users should call 0423 677 767.
- Internet relay users can connect to the National Relay Service (see the National Relay website for details) and then ask for 131 444.
